Website Usability & Design for Conversion

When designing a website or user interface, ensuring that it is designed in the most user friendly manner for the intended audience(s) is paramount.  Designing for Conversion refers to the process of clearly identifying the organisational goals and ensuring that the final interface designs persuades your target audience to complete these tasks.

Whether you have an existing website or are about to embark on a redesign of your current online offering, website usability and user behaviour analysis can often lead to:

  • Increased sales and task completion;
  • Increased visitor returns;
  • Greater understanding of users’ needs;
  • Efficiencies created by increased uptake of online services.

In order to engage the user and communicate your message the user MUST be able to navigate intuitively, complete key tasks with ease and most importantly – easily communicate with you.

Usability studies are equally valuable for all organisations, whether public sector service, e-Commerce vendor, or offline enterprise, converting website visitors to customers is the basic premise of all online communications.

A website design fully optimised for usability and conversion will ensure that users are able to navigate and search intuitively, locate key content quickly and are drawn to react when they have understood your message.

Our Experience

Biznet IIS have completed usability studies for many clients across all business sectors including:

  • Maxol Direct

  • Law Society of Ireland
  • Veterinary Council of Ireland

Our Approach

Biznet IIS’ highly experienced team of usability experts are on hand to advise our clients on best practice approach to delivering user friendly interfaces. This consultative process of course requires significant input from the client and can be summarised as follows:

Identification of Priorities

When embarking on any website or interface design project it is important to carefully identify your:

  • Key Audiences (e.g. Clients / Prospects / Media);
  • Priority Content (e.g. Products / Special Offers / Publications);
  • Priority messages or tasks you want them to complete (e.g. Purchase / Signup / Document Download).

Once identified it is important to reach consensus on these issues with all internal stakeholders to ensure that the whole organisation’s needs will be satisfied by the delivered solution.

Analysis & User Testing

UsabilityVery often, what our clients consider to be their most significant audiences and priority content don’t actually correlate with the hard facts their website analytics reports and usability tests deliver.

As part of any usability study Biznet IIS will carry out a detailed website user behaviour analysis including:

  • Website Statistics and User Behaviour Analysis reports using software such as WebTrends, Google Analytics and Clicktracks.
  • User Testing – watching typical site visitors interacting with the existing website or with the newly designed site.

Collation of Results & Design Rationale

Before embarking on the interface design process, our usability experts will deliver a recommendation led report highlighting key audiences, priority content and key considerations.

The document is written in layman’s terms, presenting key issues and including proposed “wireframe” designs for all specified pages. The document thoroughly explains the rationale for the all recommendations made, ensuring that our clients can make informed decisions before entering the website concept design phase.
