Biznet's WIMPS website may be launched in Basque Country!
Tuesday 09 October 2007 Business and GovernmentWIMPS, which stands for Where Is My Public Servant, has a database of all public representatives in Northern Ireland.
It provides a platform for young people to express their views on issues affecting them and to allow these messages to reach decision - makers in their communities.
The award-winning site also has a database of all public representatives in Northern Ireland searchable by postcode, which links users to their elected representatives in the Surpoean Union, Westminister, NI Assembly and council levels.
This week a delegation, headed by the Basque Country's Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport, Miren Azkarate Villar, travelled to Biznet's Head Office to discuss the possibility of franchising the project.
Paul Smith, Public Achievement, siad that he is hopeful the idea will become a worldwide trend. "There is nothing like www.wimps.org.uk on the internet. We haven't been able to find anything like ity anywhere in the US or Europe" he said.
The delegation saw it as a very innovative idea. There has been interest from all across Europe and recently a couple of organisations in Boston and Washington.
